Recently bankrupted company Christian Lacroix is now eyeing a major comeback in the fashion scene by coming up with new and crafty collection that the public will surely like.

The company is currently running as a licensing corporation but it now has plans of creating four lines that will be featured in fashion shows in the future. Aside from fashion accessories, the company offers designer maternity lingerie, men’s and women’s accessories and other collections.

Lacroix has also acquired rights in the range of women’s sunglasses and optical frams for luxury company Mondottico, luxury stationery through Libretto Holdings, wood panels from Marotte and home textiles with Designers Guild.

With these new developments in place, the company is optimistic about the future operations. French designer Christian Lacroix will no longer be part with the company despite his name still being used in the fashion line.

Consumers in Japan are certainly going for smart clothing. This could have driven two foreign clothing chains to open stores in Japan despite the global financial crisis.

Barneys New York opened its first store in Japan in the port city of Kobe on Friday. To make a splash in this Asian city, the company has collaborated with British supermodel Agyness Deyn to come up with specially designed fashion collection.

Last February 27, the “I am Agyness Deyn for Barneys Green” collection was launched during the Kobe Collection fashion show. The company’s aim is to inculcate environment-friendly efforts in the fashion business.

Also making its presence felt in Japan is Sweden-based clothing chain H&M which will open its first store in the city of Osaka.

These two companies are aiming for bigger revenues at this side of the world where consumers have the purchasing power.

The Academy Awards is still a month away but several Hollywood stars are now giving a hint through the media as to what they would be wearing in this special night.

During the debut of Victoria Beckham’s Fall 2010 collection in New York City, fashion icon Victoria Beckham hinted that she will be wearing an intimate, sexy nightgown at the Oscars almost looking like an item in women’s nightwear.

She was personally on hand to shake hands with magazine editors and explained her latest fashion line. The collection featured signature sheaths that she personally wears together with sexy jersey dresses. Beckham stated that she already had a look in mind for the Oscars, including pre-Award and post-Award ceremonies.

InStyle magazine reported that the fashion icon said that she will have an effortless, chic look during the ceremony.

Beckham is being tapped to make designs for a leading establishment in Dubai although she has not committed on the project yet.

The London Fashion Week began on Friday with a more solemn note as a wall of condolences for late British designer Alexander McQueen was erected for participants to write on.

McQueen committed suicide with still unidentified reason. McQueen is known for designing smart clothes that revives the nineties and goes beyond the usual norm.

According to reports, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, personally wrote to request Beckham to become part of the project. The 35-year old fashion icon and her husband David Beckham have met with the Dubai officials while they spent their holidays in the Middle Eastern kingdom last year.

The hotel would be called “Isla Moda,” a fashion-inspired hotel located in an isle off Dubai that’s being created with the help of world-renowned designer Karl Lagerfeld.

A source revealed that the mother of three is seriously considering this offer since the fee is not something to be ignored. As of now, Beckham has yet to officially become part of the design team.

A large quantity of 1950s Citroen DS cars and several look-a-likes of Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jacques Tati marked through the iconic Paris square during the weekend as fashion house Kenzo unveiled its latest fashion trends in terms of menswear at the Paris Fashion Week.

Tati, winner of the prestigious Oscar trophy for “Mon Oncle” in 1959, played the famous Hulot character where he was walking about with an umbrella with a raincoat and hat.

Kenzo designer Antonio Marras said that Tati has an “inimitable silhouette” which made him like his “eccentricity and anarchism.”

Marras personally designed the latest release for Kenzo and most of his models wore elegantly designed short jackets and trousers, which set a trend during the Paris men’s shows on Sunday.

Kenzo went for heavy tweeds and wools which garnered massive interest from the audiences.

The British Fashion Awards concluded with a bang last week with Burberry’s creative mogul Christopher Bailey clinching the prestigious “Designer of the Year” award for the second time in his career. Bailey also won the same award in 2005.

The 38-year old Yorkshireman has been getting a lot of accolades this year, including the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honors earlier this year. His collection for the spring and summer 2010 called Burberry Prorsum collection gained positive reviews when it was showcased last September during the London Fashion Week.

Burberry clinched the “Designer Brand” award. Bailey, the fashion line’s chief creative officer, revealed during the acceptance speech that he will continue showcasing products from the Prorsum line at the London Fashion Week in February 2010.
