Jean-Louis Dumas, the chief executive officer of Hermès, has died at his home in Paris, France. He was 72 years of age.

Dumas has been the top executive of the company, known for providing luxurious fashion handbags and accessories to high-end customers, for the past three decades.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed Dumas’ death but did not provide the reason. However, it’s been known to the media that the CEO has been suffering Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Dumas took over the post of CEO in 1978. It was on that year that the company has been suffering losses. However fortunes were reversed when he invited English actress Jane Birkin to design a new line of fashion handbags for the company. The popular Birkin bag gained popularity and is now being sold starting at $7,500. This elevated the company’s status as one of the most sought after high-end brands in the world.
